Sister Supper Club

Welcome.

Where should we begin? Over two years ago my older sister moved from Atlanta, where we grew up to Denver, CO putting us 1,367 miles apart. After 20+ years of either living together or down the street from one another, this was quite the adjustment. Since she's moved, she's added two babies to her brood and my "baby" cousin flourished into a young woman. My two girls have grown quite a bit themselves and started to enter their school days. I could go on and on about "what's changed" but thankfully for modern technology and airplanes - we've managed to make it work.

Valerie, my older sister, became a stay at home mom when she made the move. Being a large driving force behind the move, she was more than thrilled to become a stay at home. I, myself, have been a stay at home mom for over 4 years - so I welcomed (cough, cautioned) her into the world of endless diapers, cleaning, tantrums, cuddling in pj's, taxi driving, episodes of Ellen and of course, meal planning. This will connect to why we have a food blog - I promise.

Dinner has always been a big part of our lives. For starters, we both love to eat. We come from a family who loves to eat. We were raised with family dinner most nights and as we got older and moved into our own houses, we still came together for Sunday family dinners. We were lucky to have a mom who knew what she was doing in the kitchen. We learned a lot about cooking from her and were able to win over a couple of guys hearts through their full stomachs. With time came children and picky eaters and the whole "you need to eat organic" phase and meal time became a little more complicated. Once Val moved and day time freed up for her, she started cooking more meals. Running out of ideas myself, I started asking her more and more "what's for dinner?".

Then it hit us. We don't get to live by each other anymore and physically have dinner together, but why can't we cook the same meal one night each week and still have the same dinner, together. We could take pictures, modify recipes, provide feedback and share this information with each other. It would be our little "thing" we have, so far away from each other. And what a better way to share this than with a blog. A place we could look back at. A way to start family traditions. A sister supper club, if you will. And with 4 daughters between us, there was no better title than a play on a classic Disney princess movie.

Brilliant, I know.

So we started with our first dinner last week. In the following entries you will be able to read both accounts of how our dinners turned out. Enjoy!
